Builder Base Complete Guide 2026: BH9 and BH10 Tips

← All Guides

Everything you need to know about the Builder Base in 2026 — how it works, best attack strategies, upgrade priorities for BH9 and BH10, and how to earn the most Builder Gold.

What Is the Builder Base?

The Builder Base is a separate village in Clash of Clans with its own troops, buildings, heroes, and currency (Builder Gold and Builder Elixir). It runs independently from your main village — you can work on both simultaneously.

The key difference: Builder Base uses a versus battle system. You attack an opponent’s base and they automatically attack yours. Whoever scores more stars (or more destruction in a tie) wins the match and earns Builder Gold.

Why the Builder Base Matters

The O.T.T.O Hut. This is the main reason to invest in the Builder Base. Fully upgrading specific BH buildings unlocks the O.T.T.O Hut, which provides a 6th builder for your main village. A 6th builder is a permanent, massive progression boost — it’s worth every resource you put into the Builder Base to unlock it.

O.T.T.O requirements (as of 2026):

  • Gear Up: 3 main village defenses using BH Gold (requires BH5+)
  • Multi Mortar to level 8
  • Cannon Cart to level 18
  • Mega Tesla to level 9
  • Battle Machine to level 30

Builder Base Basics

Resources

  • Builder Gold: Used for buildings and defenses in BH
  • Builder Elixir: Used for troops in BH

Both are earned through Versus Battles and collected passively from Builder Mines and Builder Elixir Collectors.

The Battle Machine

The Battle Machine is the Builder Base hero. He’s an Elixir-powered hero with a powerful ability (Electric Hammer) that deals massive damage and temporarily boosts him. Upgrade him constantly — he has a higher impact at BH than heroes do at main village at early levels.

Clock Tower

The Clock Tower temporarily speeds up all BH resource collection and building at 10× speed. Use it strategically — activate when all your builders are busy with long upgrades for maximum benefit.

BH Upgrade Priority

BH5-7: Focus on Battle Machine

The Battle Machine is the most impactful upgrade in the early BH. Get him to level 15+ before upgrading most other buildings.

Priority:

  1. Battle Machine upgrades
  2. Multi Mortar (toward O.T.T.O requirement)
  3. Cannon Cart (toward O.T.T.O requirement)

BH8-9: Unlock and Upgrade New Troops

BH8 unlocks new attack options. The key new troop is the Super P.E.K.K.A (BH version).

Priority:

  1. Battle Machine to level 25+
  2. Mega Tesla upgrades (toward O.T.T.O requirement)
  3. New defensive buildings to current max

BH10: Complete O.T.T.O

BH10 is the current max. The goal here is completing all O.T.T.O requirements to get the 6th Builder.

Priority:

  1. Cannon Cart to level 18 (often the longest grind)
  2. Battle Machine to level 30
  3. Mega Tesla to level 9
  4. All defenses to max

Best BH Attack Strategies

Mass Giant (BH5-7)

Deploy Giants across the base front with Archers behind for ranged DPS. Giants tank, Archers kill. Simple, consistent, effective at lower BH levels.

Battle Machine Walk (BH7-8)

Use the Battle Machine to walk one side of the base, deleting buildings while his ability keeps him alive. Deploy supporting troops on the other side to push simultaneously.

Super P.E.K.K.A + Cannon Cart (BH8-9)

Cannon Carts target defenses and have high DPS. Super P.E.K.K.A has massive HP and damage. Together they push through BH8-9 bases reliably.

Deploy: Send Cannon Carts at defenses on one side, Super P.E.K.K.A in the center, Battle Machine behind the Carts to clean what they miss.

Night Witch Spam (BH9-10)

Night Witches spawn Bats continuously and deal significant area damage. At high levels, 8 Night Witches flooding bats across a base clear it efficiently with minimal spell support.

Clock Tower Strategy

The Clock Tower activates for 14 minutes (upgradeable), speeding up all BH activity to 10×. To maximize value:

  1. Only activate when all BH builders are busy on long upgrades
  2. If the Clock Tower is ready and builders are idle, you’re losing value — queue upgrades first
  3. Activate before logging off for a long stretch — 14 minutes of 10× = 140 minutes of effective progress per activation

Clock Tower Potion (from Clan Games): Instantly fills the Clock Tower’s timer. Use it when all builders are on long BH upgrades for maximum time compression.

Common Builder Base Mistakes

Ignoring the BH for months. The O.T.T.O 6th Builder is one of the best permanent upgrades in the game. Every day you ignore the BH is a day closer to the 6th Builder you’re not taking.

Leaving the Battle Machine idle. Same rule as main village heroes — always keep the Battle Machine upgrading. His upgrades are cheap and fast at low levels.

Activating Clock Tower with idle builders. An idle builder during Clock Tower activation is pure waste. Fill all builder slots before activating.

Under-upgrading Cannon Cart. The Cannon Cart requirement for O.T.T.O (level 18) is the longest grind. Start it early and upgrade it consistently — don’t leave it until last.
