TH16 Attack Overview
TH16 is the current top Town Hall level and the most challenging base to crack in Clash of Clans. TH16 introduces the Town Hall Weapon (Giga Tesla upgrade), the Spell Tower defense, and the highest hero levels in the game. Bases at this level are specifically designed to stop the standard 3-star strategies.
Success at TH16 requires precise hero equipment setup, reading base designs to predict pathing, and knowing when to deviate from a script.
Hero Equipment for TH16
At TH16, Legendary equipment at high levels is expected for serious war performance. Recommended loadouts:
Barbarian King: Giant Gauntlet (max) + Spiky Ball
Archer Queen: Frozen Arrow (max) — no substitute at TH16
Grand Warden: Healing Tome + Life Gem
Royal Champion: Hog Rider Puppet (max) or Rocket Spear for snipe setups
If any Legendary equipment is below level 15, prioritize upgrading it before pushing to TH16 war performance.
Strategy 1: Root Rider + Super Witch (Meta Standard)
Still the most consistent 3-star strategy at TH16 in 2026. Root Riders completely bypass walls — against TH16 bases with layered compartments, this removes the biggest failure point of ground strategies.
Troop Composition
| Troop | Count |
|---|---|
| Root Rider | 6-8 |
| Super Witch | 4-5 |
| Witch | 2 |
| Super Barbarian (filler) | 4 |
| Healer (Queen Walk) | 4 |
Spells: Rage × 2, Freeze × 3, Earthquake × 2, Bat Spell × 1
Siege: Log Launcher or Stone Slammer
Execution
- Queen Charge — Deploy Queen with 4 Healers toward the Eagle Artillery or Monolith side. Let her push deep before deploying the main army.
- Earthquake entry walls — Drop 2 Earthquakes to open the entry compartment wall.
- Log Launcher — Send it down the main lane to tank Infernos and Spell Tower damage off your Root Riders.
- Root Riders wide — Deploy Root Riders across a wide front. They’ll target defenses through walls, clearing the path for Super Witches.
- Super Witch follow-up — Deploy behind Root Riders. Skeleton flood provides massive DPS support.
- RC cleanup — Royal Champion on the flank or rear to take out defenses Root Riders bypassed.
- Warden Eternal Tome — Use when Eagle Artillery fires OR when the Spell Tower freezes your core push. This is the most critical timing decision at TH16.
- Freeze the Monolith — If the Monolith’s burst fires into your Super Witch cluster, Freeze it immediately.
Strategy 2: Super Dragon Zap
A high-damage air strategy for TH16. Super Dragons plus multiple Lightning Spells to delete the Air Defenses before they engage.
Why it works at TH16: TH16 Air Defenses are level 12. Super Dragons flying against level 12 Air Defenses will die before clearing the base. Lightning Spell combos pre-destroy 2-3 Air Defenses before Super Dragons even land — dramatically extending their lifespan.
Troop Composition
| Troop | Count |
|---|---|
| Super Dragon | 6-7 |
| Balloon | 6-8 |
| Minion | 8 |
Spells: Lightning × 6-8, Earthquake × 2, Rage × 1, Freeze × 2
Execution
- Lightning combo — Use 4-5 Lightning Spells + 1 Earthquake to one-shot a key Air Defense. Target the Air Defense on the side you’re attacking from.
- Second Air Defense hit — Use remaining Lightning + Earthquake on a second Air Defense.
- Super Dragons wide — Fan 6-7 Super Dragons across the entire attacking front. Wide deployment prevents them from clustering and sharing Air Defense fire.
- Balloons follow — Deploy behind Super Dragons once they’re mid-base, targeting remaining Air Defenses.
- Rage at core — Drop a Rage when Super Dragons converge on the Eagle Artillery cluster.
- Freeze Scattershots — TH16 Scattershots are devastating to Super Dragon health. Freeze any Scattershot targeting your main cluster.
Strategy 3: Precision Queen Charge + Ground Cleanup
High-skill setup for bases where the Queen can snipe critical defenses before the main army deploys.
Best used when: The base has the Eagle Artillery, Inferno Towers, or Scattershot clustered on one accessible side — and the Queen can reach them before triggering the main push.
Setup
- Frozen Arrow Queen with Archer Puppet secondary
- 4 Healers for full Queen walk sustain
- King + RC on opposite side
- Warden following main Queen path
Execution
- Queen Walk takes out Eagle Artillery side completely (5-7 key defenses cleared).
- King + RC funnel from opposite corner.
- Warden walks with King, building up Eternal Tome charge.
- Main Super Witch army deployed once the Queen has entered the base interior.
- Warden ability timed to Eagle Artillery activation (if Queen didn’t take it out) or Inferno lock-on.
TH16 Unique Challenges
Spell Tower
TH16’s Spell Tower fires periodic freeze effects that stop your entire army cold. Counters:
- Deploy spread out — Spell Tower has a radius; spread units reduce the number affected by a single cast
- Freeze the Spell Tower when it activates mid-push
- Warden Eternal Tome makes troops immune during the Spell Tower freeze window
Monolith at TH16
The TH16 Monolith hits harder than at TH14-15. Never cluster Root Riders and Super Witches directly on the Monolith simultaneously. Use Root Riders to path past it and Super Witches to follow once the Monolith is distracted.
Giga Inferno Town Hall
TH16 Giga Inferno deals massive single-target and AoE damage. Target the Town Hall only after at least 3-4 major defenses are down. Approaching the TH too early with a depleted army results in the Giga Inferno wiping the remaining units.
Common TH16 Attack Mistakes
Deploying Root Riders in a single column. Root Riders clustered together path to the same defense and die together. Fan them across a wide front to maximize target coverage.
Using Frozen Arrow Queen and still losing her. A Queen with Frozen Arrow and full Healer support is nearly unkillable. If your Queen is dying, check: Are Healers following her? Is the CC lured? Is she walking into a Scattershot without Freeze support?
Not Freezing the Spell Tower. New TH16 attackers let the Spell Tower freeze the main push repeatedly. A single well-timed Freeze Spell on the Spell Tower prevents it from firing for several seconds — saving the entire push.
Deploying Super Witches before Root Riders create a funnel. Super Witches need open lanes to push through. Deploying them simultaneously with Root Riders results in both getting stuck on the outer layer. Let Root Riders penetrate one wall layer first.
