COC Wall Upgrade Guide 2026: Fastest Way to Max Your Walls

← All Guides

The most efficient wall upgrade strategy in Clash of Clans 2026. Learn which walls to upgrade first, how to use Gold and Builder resources optimally, and how long walls take at every Town Hall level.

Why Walls Matter (And Why They Don’t)

Walls are the most debated upgrade in COC. Some players max walls before anything else. Others never upgrade them. The truth is in between.

Walls do matter:

  • High-HP walls in core compartments force attackers to spend Wall Breakers or Earthquake Spells
  • Level 14+ walls around your Town Hall and key defenses add meaningful time to ground pushes
  • In Clan War, extra wall HP forces opponents to use one more Earthquake Spell — removing it from their spell loadout

Walls don’t matter as much as:

  • Defense upgrades (Eagle Artillery, Infernos, Scattershots)
  • Hero levels
  • Troop upgrades

The rule: Upgrade core compartment walls steadily, but never at the expense of defenses or heroes. Walls are a secondary spend once your primary upgrades are running.

Which Walls to Upgrade First

Never upgrade walls randomly. Use this priority order:

1. Town Hall Compartment

The walls directly surrounding your Town Hall should always be the highest level available. Protecting the TH is the #1 goal of war base design.

2. Eagle Artillery / Monolith Compartment

These defenses change the outcome of attacks more than any others. Walls around them need to hold long enough for the defense to fire multiple times.

3. Inferno Tower Compartments

Both Inferno Towers should have high-level walls. A ground push that reaches an unprotected Inferno destroys your core defense.

4. Dark Elixir Storage Compartment

In farming, your DE storage is the primary target. Keep it walled at the current max level.

5. Outer Ring Last

Outer walls protect outer buildings. Outer buildings losing isn’t a war loss — your core losing is. Outer wall upgrades are the lowest priority.

Wall Costs by Level

Wall LevelCostAvailable at TH
Level 111,000,000 GoldTH10
Level 122,000,000 GoldTH10
Level 134,000,000 GoldTH12
Level 146,000,000 GoldTH13
Level 159,000,000 GoldTH15
Level 1612,000,000 GoldTH16

Wall costs scale steeply. At TH14-16, maxing all walls requires hundreds of millions of Gold. This is why wall upgrades are a long-term farming project, not a one-week task.

Fastest Wall Upgrade Strategies

Strategy 1: Use Overflow Gold

The most efficient wall upgrade approach: upgrade walls only with surplus Gold that would otherwise go wasted.

How it works:

  • Your Gold Storages have a cap. Gold earned beyond that cap is lost.
  • Before storage overflow, dump the excess into wall upgrades — it’s “free” Gold that would disappear anyway.
  • This approach means walls upgrade steadily without taking resources from defenses.

Strategy 2: Book of Building on High-Level Walls

Each wall is a building. A Book of Building instantly completes any building upgrade — including a single wall segment.

At TH14-16, using a Book of Building on a level 15 wall (which takes ~8 days) is a poor trade. Use Books on defenses, not walls.

Exception: Use spare Books from Clan Games on walls if all your defenses are actively upgrading and a Book would otherwise sit unused.

Strategy 3: Clan Games Wall Sprint

During Clan Games, some players use the reward Builder Potions to accelerate wall upgrades. Builder Potion on 5 active builders for 1 hour = 10 hours per builder = 50 hours of combined progress.

This is most effective when all 5 builders are simultaneously working on wall segments — but only do this if all defense upgrades are either maxed or actively running in parallel.

Strategy 4: Dedicated Wall Builder

Some players assign one builder permanently to walls — always upgrading the next highest-priority wall segment while the other 4 builders work on defenses and buildings.

This is a strong approach at TH12+ when building queues are long but Gold flows regularly from farming.

How Many Walls Does Each TH Have?

Town HallTotal Walls
TH9250
TH10275
TH11300
TH12300
TH13300
TH14300
TH15325
TH16350

Fully maxing walls at TH14 requires ~1.8 billion Gold in total wall costs (at L14 walls). This is a multi-month farming project and should be treated as a background activity, not a sprint.

Wall Upgrade Mistakes

Maxing walls before defenses. Full level 12 walls with level 1 Infernos is dramatically weaker than level 9 walls with maxed Infernos. Always defenses first.

Upgrading outer walls before inner ones. Every Gold spent on outer walls is Gold not spent on core protection. The outer ring should be last.

Using Books of Building on walls at high TH levels. A Book of Building completes one wall segment (saving 6-8 days) or one Inferno Tower upgrade (saving 14+ days). The Inferno Tower is worth 2× the Book value.

Ignoring walls completely. The opposite mistake — players who max every defense but leave walls at level 10 miss meaningful HP thresholds that force attackers to commit extra resources.
