TH11 Upgrade Overview
TH11 is a landmark upgrade. The Grand Warden joins your hero roster, the Eagle Artillery becomes your most powerful single defense, and Builder Hall construction begins alongside your main village. There’s more to manage here than at any previous Town Hall level.
The key challenge at TH11: Dark Elixir pressure is extreme. You’re leveling three heroes simultaneously (Barbarian King, Archer Queen, Grand Warden), and all three compete for resources. This guide gives the optimal allocation order.
First 24 Hours at TH11
Build immediately when you arrive:
- Eagle Artillery — Your single most powerful new defense. Start upgrading immediately after building.
- Grand Warden Altar — Build him and start upgrading with Elixir. He charges differently from the other heroes (Elixir, not Dark Elixir) so he doesn’t compete for your most precious resource.
- Builder Hall — TH11 unlocks Builder Hall 5. Build all new BH buildings immediately.
- New Inferno Tower (if applicable) — TH11 gets new/upgraded defensive buildings. Build them immediately rather than leaving building slots empty.
Priority 1: Grand Warden
The Grand Warden is your TH11 priority that other guides get wrong. His upgrades cost Elixir — meaning you can level him constantly without touching Dark Elixir reserves.
Why prioritize Warden:
- His Eternal Tome ability changes at specific level thresholds (L10, L20, L30 are major radius jumps)
- He’s available the moment he’s built and upgrading immediately locks in 100s of hours of Elixir spending
- His attack support is multiplicative — a Warden at level 30 with Eternal Tome changes which attacks succeed at TH11
Target: Warden level 20 by mid-TH11, level 30+ by end of TH11.
Rule: Keep the Warden upgrading at all times. There is no reason to ever have an idle Warden — his resource (Elixir) is abundant.
Priority 2: Archer Queen
Dark Elixir spending priority: Archer Queen first.
TH11 is the last Town Hall level where the Queen can fully transform your attack capability before Hero Equipment is introduced at TH14. A Queen at level 60-65 with Invisibility Vial equipment is one of the most powerful offensive tools in the game.
Target: Queen level 60-65 by end of TH11.
What level 60+ Queen enables:
- Queen Walk that reliably clears half a TH11 base
- Enough HP to survive Inferno Tower exposure while walking
- Sufficient DPS to destroy Eagle Artillery during the walk
Priority 3: Eagle Artillery
After the Warden is building and the Queen is upgrading, focus your construction builders on Eagle Artillery.
Why Eagle Artillery is Priority 3 (not 1):
- The Warden and Queen upgrades run in the background — they don’t need a builder slot
- Building and upgrading Eagle Artillery to level 3-4 is the single biggest defensive jump at TH11
- Level 3+ Eagle Artillery fires faster and deals significantly more damage per burst
Levels to target: Eagle Artillery to max (level 4) at TH11.
Priority 4: Barbarian King
Continue King upgrades alongside the Queen. Target King level 55-60 by end of TH11.
Why the King is Priority 4: King upgrades compete with Queen upgrades for Dark Elixir. The Queen delivers more attack value per level at this stage — a level 65 Queen and level 50 King outperforms a level 55 Queen and level 55 King by a significant margin.
Upgrade the King in parallel with the Queen, but if you have to choose where to spend your next Dark Elixir batch, the Queen comes first.
Priority 5: Key Defenses
With Eagle Artillery upgraded and heroes actively leveling, focus defenses in order:
Tier 1
- Inferno Towers (both) — Target max level at TH11. Maxed Infernos specifically counter high-HP troops and equipment-buffed heroes.
- X-Bows — Level 5 X-Bows at TH11 provide the strongest ground defense below TH12.
Tier 2
- Air Defenses — TH11 has 4 Air Defenses. Get them to max to defend against the dominant air strategies.
- Scattershot × 1 (TH11 has one) — Strong splash coverage, upgrade after Infernos and X-Bows.
Tier 3
- Wizard Towers, Cannons, Archer Towers — Upgrade with idle builders. Lower priority but steady targets.
Priority 6: Troops
High priority:
- Yeti — TH11’s premier attack troop. Upgrade immediately for Yeti Smash strategies.
- Witch — Underlies Super Witch (available at TH11). Higher Witch levels = stronger Super Witch HP.
- Electro Dragon — Dominant air troop. Keep upgrading.
- Healer — Essential for Queen Walk.
Secondary:
- Lava Hound, Balloon (for LaLoon strategies)
- Hog Rider (Hog Smash and hybrid attacks)

Common TH11 Mistakes
Ignoring the Grand Warden. Some players focus all resources on the King and Queen because they’re familiar. The Warden is the most efficient upgrade at TH11 because he uses Elixir — an abundant resource. Never leave him idle.
Eagle Artillery last. Players who spend months upgrading Cannons and Archer Towers before the Eagle Artillery end up with a TH11 base that can be 3-starred as easily as a TH10. Eagle Artillery changes that.
Spending Dark Elixir on King before Queen. The Queen’s attack value per level exceeds the King’s at TH11. Always allocate surplus Dark Elixir to the Queen first.
Under-leveling Yeti before war. TH11 war bases are designed around Yeti Smash being the dominant attack. Running level 1-2 Yetis in war puts you significantly below the attack power curve of other TH11 players.
