Why Farming Bases Matter
Most players obsess over trophy pushing and war performance while ignoring resource efficiency. At TH14, upgrading heroes and buildings requires massive amounts of:
- 🌑 Dark Elixir — Essential for every hero level
- 💛 Gold — Walls and building upgrades
- 💧 Elixir — Troop and spell upgrades
A good farming base minimizes resource losses when attacked — especially Dark Elixir.
Dark Elixir: Top Priority
Each Dark Elixir storage holds only 5,000 DE, and a high percentage gets stolen per raid. Maxing out the Barbarian King, Archer Queen, and Royal Champion at TH14 costs hundreds of thousands of Dark Elixir — making DE storage protection your single most important design goal.
Rule: Dark Elixir Storages must sit in the core, behind at least two full wall layers.
Farming Base Design Principles
Distributed Storage
- Spread Gold Storages and Elixir Storages across separate compartments
- Even if one zone gets wiped, the others remain intact
- TH14 has 6 Gold Storages + 6 Elixir Storages — group them in 3 clusters at three points of a triangle
Town Hall Positioning
In a farming base, the TH can go on the outside:
- An outside TH gives up only 1 star and a small resource bonus
- Many attackers grab the 1 star and leave (conserving their troops)
- The core is then dedicated entirely to protecting DE storages
Outer ring: TH + light defenses (bait)
Middle ring: Gold + Elixir Storages
Core: Dark Elixir Storage × 2 + Hero Altars
Key Defensive Buildings for Resource Zones
| Building | Role |
|---|---|
| Giant Bomb × 4 | Wipes Goblin squads rushing storages |
| Spring Trap | Launches Goblins before they reach DE |
| Seeking Air Mine | Counters Elite Goblin air drops |
| X-Bow (ground mode) | High-efficiency anti-infantry coverage |
Typical Farming Base Structure
[DE Drill] [DE Drill]
[Gold] [Gold]
[DE Storage] TH14 [DE Storage]
[Elix] [Elix]
[Gold] [Gold]
Place the TH and Builder Huts on the outer ring as bait, so attackers burn through their army clearing the perimeter — leaving nothing left to crack the core.
Countering Goblin Knife
The most common farming raid at TH14 is Goblin Knife — using Lightning Spells or Balloons to clear outer defenses, then flooding the base with Goblins.
How to counter it:
- Place 2–3 Giant Bombs around every storage cluster
- Set X-Bows to ground mode pointed at storage-dense zones
- Archer Queen at level 60+ handles Goblin squads reliably
Upgrade Priority at TH14
If you just arrived at TH14, this order maximizes efficiency:
- Archer Queen (push to level 75 first — best DE-per-impact value)
- Dark Elixir Drills × 2 (boost daily passive DE income)
- X-Bows × 4 (strongest ground defense in storage zones)
- Walls (level 13 gold walls — massive HP jump)
Summary
A good farming base pays for itself quickly. Saving an extra 2,000–3,000 DE per day compounds into weeks of saved upgrade time over a month. Ten minutes rearranging your base is always worth it.
